Borehole drilling method

Submitted by chee.ng on Thu, 15/02/2024 - 11:05

A list of drilling methods routinely used by the mineral and energy resource industries. The drilling methods are grouped into three main categories based on the dominant motion of the drillstem (i.e. the string of pipe that transmits power from the surface down to the drillbit) and drillbit (the part of the bottom-hole assembly that cuts, grinds or breaks the bottom-hole formation to make the hole). Specifically, the presence/absence of rotation in either or both is used as the main distinguishing factor, hence the main grouping into rotary, non-rotary and hybrid.

Centre for Australian National Biodiversity Research

Submitted by admin on Wed, 06/12/2023 - 05:05

The Centre for Australian National Biodiversity Research (CANBR) includes the Australian National Herbarium. These are jointly managed by CSIRO and the Director of National Parks with strong links to the Australian National Botanic Gardens. The Herbarium, with over 1.2 million specimens, is responsible for the scientific integrity of the Gardens' plant labeling and manages the national plant name lists for Australia's botanical community.

Australian Biodiversity Information Governance Group

Submitted by admin on Mon, 04/12/2023 - 10:12

The Australian Biodiversity Information Governance Group (AusBIGG) comprises Australian Commonwealth, State & Territory and environmental research organisations involved in the collection and management of biodiversity information.

AusBIGG was established in 2021 and its main role, as of 2023, is the governance of the Australian Biodiversity Information Standard.

New South Wales Forest Monitoring and improvement Program (NSW-FMIP)

Submitted by javiersan18 on Tue, 28/11/2023 - 11:14

The New South Wales Forest Monitoring and improvement Program (NSW-FMIP) dataset contains data derived from LIDAR scans in 15 native forest plots within New South Wales in April 2021, during a pilot of potential field measurement methods for the state-wide forest plot network.  Data includes tree height, diameter, canopy cover, species composition, coarse woody debris, above-ground biomass and biodiversity Assessment Method structure.

Geochemistry Data Model

Submitted by admin on Thu, 02/11/2023 - 15:58

This data model is for the exchange of geochemistry data. It is intended for use initially by organisations supplying geochemistry results to the Geological Survey of Queensland and then perhaps later for geochemistry data exchange in Australia generally.

Borehole geometry

Submitted by chee.ng on Thu, 02/11/2023 - 15:05

This vocabulary covers the common terminology and concepts used in the mineral and energy industries to fully depict the 3D extent of a borehole (i.e. its position in space and the depth reached) or the position of any point along the borehole. The list focuses on the primary and some derived/calculated parameters that are part of reporting for drilling activities, and does include specific processes/procedures related to the acquisition of some of these parameters (e.g. downhole directional survey).

Location method

Submitted by chee.ng on Thu, 02/11/2023 - 14:07

Methods used to spatially locate features observed in the field (e.g. site/outcrop descriptions, structural readings, etc.), data obtained from legacy documents (e.g. airphotos, maps, previously published reports), or the position of exploration, mining and related infrastructure features. Each location method has a spatial accuracy that indicates the maximum estimated approximate error in the location.

Geoscience units of measurement

Submitted by chee.ng on Thu, 02/11/2023 - 14:05

A list of units of measurement (UoM) relevant for geoscience and the administration of statutory submissions from the resource industries. The list is based on the Geological Survey of Queensland (GSQ) Geoscience Profile of the Quantities, Units, Dimensions & Types (QUDT) ontology and vocabularies lists (https://linked.data.gov.au/def/geou and https://www.qudt.org/doc/DOC_VOCAB-UNITS.html - version 2.1.29).
