DAWE is establishing the core of an Australian National Biodiversity Knowledge Graph. The BDR initially will focus on occurrence records and ecological data relevant to environmental assessments under state-based and Commonwealth (EPBC) environmental approvals. Over time, this may be the core of a much wider biodiversity knowledge graph incorporating a broader set of information on Australia's biodiversity. The first step is a pilot project connecting data from Western Australia's Biodiversity Information Office (BIO); a second step (pending funding and support) will be to connect other state and territory jurisdictions; a third step is to build out from this core. The BDR is predicated on a biodiversity ontology developed by the Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (TERN: https://linkeddata.tern.org.au/viewers/tern-ontology).

The system supporting public access to some/much of the BDR content is online at http://bdr.gov.au. It is a Linked Data API and access to a SPARQL endpoint is also given.
